What is Hyperliquid (HYPE)?
Hyperliquid is a high-performance Layer 1 blockchain specifically optimized for decentralized finance (DeFi) and perpetual futures trading. Unlike many DEXs that use off-chain components, Hyperliquid operates a fully on-chain order book, ensuring that every order, trade, and liquidation is transparently recorded on its sovereign blockchain.
The native HYPE token is the core utility asset of the ecosystem. It is used to pay for transaction fees (gas) on the network, secure the chain through staking, and grant holders governance rights to vote on protocol upgrades through Hyperliquid Improvement Proposals (HIPs).
How Hyperliquid Works (HyperBFT & HyperEVM)
HyperBFT Consensus
Hyperliquid utilizes a custom consensus algorithm called HyperBFT, inspired by the HotStuff protocol. This technology allows the network to achieve sub-second transaction finality and process up to 200,000 orders per second, rivaling the performance of centralized exchanges.
The HyperEVM Layer
Launched in early 2025, the HyperEVM is an Ethereum-compatible smart contract environment built into the L1. It allows developers to deploy familiar Solidity-based dApps that interact directly with the high-speed financial primitives of HyperCore.
Deflationary Tokenomics
The HYPE token has a fixed maximum supply of 1,000,000,000 units. To support long-term value, the protocol uses approximately 97% of its fee revenue to conduct daily HYPE buybacks, creating consistent demand tied to platform usage.

Hyperliquid prioritizes security through independent audits, including a Zellic audit of its bridge logic. However, as with all DeFi protocols, users should be aware of smart contract risks and market volatility.
